Spring decor ideas are what your home needs right now. And that is what it is all about. After the shady days and hibernation of winter, there's a joy to seeing spring blossom outside our windows. And there's a natural desire to bring some of that color, life and vitality to our interiors, too.

There is also a practical element to changing our spring decor. We no longer need heavy curtains, the comfort of heavy blankets and the cozy shades that come with winter.

Instead, lighter curtains allow the fresh spring air to blow through our home. Bright colors "sing" in the bright daylight (shades that lose their vibrancy in the cooler light of winter). And we can create a synergy between indoors and outdoors by introducing floral and botanical prints that connect our homes to the environment around us.

Color, pattern and a lightness of materials are key to creating spring decor for your interiors, and are the elements that will transform your home ideas for the season.

Greenery

No surprises here—our love of plants will never die. Particularly in the spring, when in some climates it can still be too cold to bravely venture outdoors, bringing a little (or a lot!) of greenery can give you the warm weather comfort you crave.

Remember the term "Biophilic Design". Biophilic design principles connect a space to nature by maximising natural light and ventilation, introducing plants and nature-inspired colours and materials. Linking your indoor and outdoor space is a clever and simple way to make your home feel bigger, whilst inviting the calming energy and natural materials from the outdoors, inside.

The easiest way to introduce biophilic design into your home is with indoor plants.

Color, Texture, and Warmth

Sorry to say it, but gone are the days of the all-white kitchen. While images of it soothed our pandemic-rattled brains in the middle of 2020 and into 2021, this year is all about bringing an organic warmth to our spaces. I personally love the look of a matte bronze in the kitchen that gives depth while also suggesting warmth.

Considered organisation

Spring decor ideas aren't just about adding to your existing scheme – it's also about decluttering. If you’re set on a spring clean, use the opportunity to clear your space visually. A change of seasons is a great time to step back and look at what’s working in your space.

Considered organisation is less about stripping your home of everyday essentials, and more about displaying your things in an intentional way. Uncluttered and well-organised, almost Zen-living, spaces that are “less is more”, with calming clean lines.

And with a 700% increase in Google searches around decluttering at the end of last year, it looks like 2022 will be the year for the ultimate spring clean.

Reflecting Nature Through Colour

It's no secret that we all crave a little comfort and rest to ease our (ongoing) stress reaction to all that has been thrown at us over the past two years. Spring 2022's manifestation of that fact? An abundance of natural colors. Think yellows, greens and orange-reds, but also dark jewel tones and moodier colors will become even more popular. The best news of all? These shades are super versatile. You can really play with them throughout your home. If you use dark colors, always use a matte finish though. The shine in even eggshell will look too shiny on dark colors.

Green is the standout colour trend for spring/summer 2022, with a fresh, harmonious and revitalising impact on our homes.

Sustainability = sexy

With global warming being a major concern for most, we’re seeing a shift in people prioritizing sustainable living practices and products. What does this involve? Just about everything, really. There’s no part of your home that can’t benefit from a sustainable glow-up. Expect to see smart thermostats, recycled water systems, and plenty more. Conscious consumption? Now that’s hot.

Cocooning curves

There is a significant move towards rounded shapes in interiors, symptomatic of a lifestyle geared towards comfort and cocooning.

Curves have an immediate empathy with nature and are a welcoming feature to any interior. They help us feel connected to our surroundings, making us feel warm and safe. These curved shapes can be found in cabinets, headboards, sinks and a whole range of accessories, as well as in kitchen islands, whether they are diamond shapes, scalloped edges or purist circular motifs

Lighten up your window treatments

We pack away our heavy winter clothes once the days get warmer and brighter, so let’s use the springtime shift as a catalyst to switch our homes' ‘closets’ to something more appropriate to the season. Ditch the dark and heavy winter drapes and change to lighter curtain ideas in pretty tones for spring. Not only will you add a pop of color to your scheme, your curtains will shift in the breeze if you leave the window open, bringing a fresh and airy feel to your room. Replace heavy window treatments with lighter-weight fabric, or take down the curtains altogether in public rooms to let in as much light as possible.

And last but not least, "Barkitecture",

and probably the cutest of all trends this year.

We’re keeping our pets in mind when redecorating this year. This is not pet-proofing as we know it however, 'Barkitecture' is about creating luxury spaces for our pets that fit seamlessly with the design choices we make for ourselves.

Our love and appreciation for our pets has only grown over the past two years as we’ve spent more time at home. So much so, it’s starting to rub off on our interior design choices.

There are many more ways how to prepare your home for spring. If you’re looking for a rather simple way to spruce up your interiors for springtime, try adding flowers. Whether it’s a bouquet of them or just a few picked from your garden, they are guaranteed to transform your room into a spring oasis. If you are unable to put flowers into your bedroom, try adding throw pillor that has a flowery print instead. Floral prints also bring the springtime feel to a home, so good spring decor ideas include flower-patterned accessories such as china, rugs, throw pillows and even towels.
