Hello 2022 and hello dear readers. I hope you all had a good start into the new year, and had a great NYE! The new year comes with a lot of great opportunities. Also, it is a great time to start fresh - whether that means finally organizing your closet and decluttering your kitchen, or taking things a step further by updating the aesthetics of your home. And with two rather difficult years behind us, it is essential to create a home that we are comfortable with.

Read on for an insight on the top Interior Design Trends 2022 - you won't regret it.

GO GREEN & SUSTAINABLE

Biophilic design principles will continue to be popular in 2022, with a focus on creating calming, plant-rich environments that create a visual connection to nature. The easiest way to bring nature inside is adding plants to your home. Studies have shown that having plants in your home not only improves concentration but also reduces stress. Not to mention the big improvement of your indoor air quality. And especially now that we’ve settled into a work-from-home lifestyle that’s seemingly here to stay, it’s only natural that people are trying to find ways to bring the outdoors into their homes. You do not have a green thumb but would like to make your house a bit greener?

Then it might just be the right time to tell you that Emerald green has just been named the Color of the Year 2022. Emerald green is a vibrant darker green hue which adds a colorful luxurious touch to your home. Not a big fan of Emerald green? No worries, lighter shades, like sage, were noted by respondents to be popular in the coming year too!

But the love for nature in our homes does not just end with colours and plants. Also the furnishings and decor get a natural look. That means you will see a lot more organic and rounded home decor and furniture. Imagine sofas with rounded edges and organic prints on decor. Or round and organic home decor pieces - a must have for a soft and natural look at home.

Another possibility to bring nature indoors is adding natural materials to your home. In 2022, for instance, I expect to see many more terracotta floors, but also materials such as cork.

Talking of "going green" I would like to highlight that also the topic "sustainability" is growing bigger and bigger. But what does making your home more sustainable even mean? It means...

- Using reclaimed materials

- Ease up on the AC

- Hang dry laundry

- Install efficient shower heads

- Gradually switch to LED light bulbs.

- etc.

HELLO, MULTIFUNCTIONAL SPACES (GOODBYE OPEN PLAN)

It is a fact that the last few years we HAD to change our rooms to add a home office or a study space. Personally, I expect that working from home will remain a fixture in our lives. But this is not the only reason for creating more multifunctional spaces. With more one-person households than ever before, we also see more people living in smaller spaces. And this is also a conscious deciscion. We’re thinking more about the environment and small living often also means more sustainable living. However, with a small home there come a hand full challenges. In a small home, for instance, you have to think multifunctional. Storage has to be found in unusual spaces, furniture has to be double duty and more consious decision are made about what to buy for your home.

VINTAGE & CRAFT REVIVAL

Since slowing down has given people the opportunity to explore hands-on activities like ceramics, painting and baking, there has been a draw toward craft pieces that can be appreciated even more now that there's an understanding of how challenging they are to make. The smoothed-out Scandinavian and Memphis-influenced design trends are starting to give way to a greater interest in intricately crafted and historic decorative forms.

Besides that, expect to see more vintage and antique furnishings and decor in 2022. It does not only add a lot of character to your home interior, but also, shopping vintage is a great way to create a more sustainable home.

All in all, you can see that 2022 is all about living sustainable, conciously and comfortable. Make your home your very own place to be. Think outside the box. And always remember, it is less about how we think certain rooms should look. And more about how we feel in our homes and how we can create the most comfortable home that suits our own personal need.
